Rant... Why is this even needed

I received this in my childrens' school folders last week and I need to say that I am appalled that a school district would even need to send these out.  I will be the first to admit that I am not an Obama supporter but that is besides the point, he is our President and in no way should a school should need to ask for permission for students to view a public address from out President, especially about the Importance of Education in America.  What have we as a nation become if we can't put party lines aside and let the Elected President speak to our children, what are we teaching them, certainly not working together with something as important as their education.  This form is absolutely ridiculous but I will need to sign it because if I don't my children will not be able to view the address, I would like to see how many parents in the LISD school district would not let their children view an address from our President.

I would rather my children stay in the class room and learn. We already have enough extras during the school day to distract from learning, reading, math etc.
I think it's the parent's job to show the kids the special Obama address at home if they feel it needs to be seen.

Shannon, I couldn't agree more. It's the PRESIDENT of our country addressing the school children!! I think it's sad that the party lines have been dug so deep that we've lost sight of the basics. In Georgetown it wasn't even an option for the kids to watch. Sad.
